Mike Read joined St. James Well as General Manager in April of 2007. With three decades of experience in the hospitality industry, Mike has worked as a manager and staff trainer at The Owl and Oarsman and the Owl and Engineer and Henry’s Landing before coming to St. James Well. Born in B.C. and raised in Coquitlam, Mike spent a year traveling through Great Britan working for some of Britan’s best restaurants and taverns.
Few know about Mike’s artistic side. Glass artisan, sculptor and woodworker, Mike has a knack for drawing the beauty out of things. His work has been displayed at Studio One Glass Art in Vancouver, Place de Arts as well as many pubs, restaurants and residences through out the Vancouver area. As an artist and craftsman, he was instrumental in the construction and restaurant design for Henry’s Landing in Langley as well as Abbottsford and ran his own business as a restaurant décor designer for 4 years.
Outside of his work at The Well and his love of creating, Mike is a people watcher. Quiet and thoughtful, Mike has a deep appreciation for the Newport Village community which makes up a good majority of The Well’s patrons and is delighted to be a part of the community.
